1. Introduction
This website is a platform of communication between the various Peranakan associations in Malaysia, South Thailand and West Indonesia and also for those interested in Peranakan culture. The decision to create this networking facility was, in part, motivated by the many people who meet once a year at the Baba Convention. In fact, in our last meeting in Penang recently, there were more than 300 of us.
However, we hear very little about each other after those days! It is a pity for those were enjoyable days filled with dancing, shopping and eating. If only we can meet more often or somehow keep track of some of our more colourful members! This interactive-style website can hopefully facilitate continued contact. Furthermore, whilst there are many websites that provide information about our varied culture, with many perspectives to our origins and evolution, few are interactive and even fewer work as platforms for keeping in touch.
The Bangsawan Play was a popular Peranakan entertainment
Peranakan Networks, as its name suggests, is designed to link up each Peranakan Association in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. It is our aspiration to reach out to friends all around the world, whether in Southeast Asia, North America, Europe or Australasia. Membership is not limited to members of our various associations or even to people who identify themselves with labels like “Peranakan”, “Baba Nyonya”, “Straits Chinese”, “Sangley”, BBC or ABC! For, believe it or not, there are many who are interested in our culture, people who have a genuine interest in our history, unique culture and yes, most importantly, our nyonya food!
On the different Peranakan groups other than the Chinese Peranakan, see post, “What is Peranakan”.
This is a website for the Peranakan, its cousin hybrid communities around the world and people interested in our culture. So, please register or simply check in from time to time. It may be a window to a whole new world!

Hello,
I’m a matsalleh who enjoys Peranakan floor tiles. Most Malaysians use Western themes for their homes. I want an Asian theme. I’m looking for Peranakan floor tiles. I’m OK with ‘fake’ vs the original. I went to one vendor in KL who advertised they manufacture Nyonya tiles, but when I arrived they said they discontinued the line due to lack of interest.
Can you direct me to any manufacturers or dealers in these tiles? I thought you guys would now. I can’t find anything on the Internet.
thx.
Steve
